Gasket

As a seal is referred to the art elements or constructions which have the task to prevent unwanted material transitions from one room to another, or to limit.

For example, if a dripping faucet, so its seal is broken. For gases next to the unwanted leakage or mixing a pressure drop should often be prevented. Example is an air-filled vehicle tires, in which the valve seal must close after inflation.

One divides roughly into contact and non- contact seals and on the type of relative motion of the parts to be sealed against each other in static ( no movement), translational ( linear motion) and rotational (rotating motion) seals.

Contact seals

The sealing elements touch each other. They constitute the largest group of seals dar.

Static Seals

The sealing elements perform no relative movement.

  • Gasket - make a particularly extensive territory with regard to the selection of materials and the size at connection points of eg Pipelines dar.
  • Profile seal
  • Bushing gasket
  • Rolling seal
  • Shaft seal
  • Bonded seals ( glue, solder, weld )
  • Sealant ( mastic, bitumen )
  • Sealing clamp
  • Einschleifdichtung
  • Press connection

Examples:

  • O-ring
  • Fiber gasket
  • Compriband
  • Inflatable seal ( ABD ) or Blähklemme, inflatable sleeve, etc.

Dynamic seals

The sealing elements move relative to each other.

Reciprocating Seals

The relative movement of the sealing elements is translational Art

  • Piston ring
  • Bellow
  • Brush seal
  • Hydraulic seal
  • Pneumatic seal
  • Coal lamella

Rotary seals

The relative movement of the sealing elements is rotatory Art The typical use is to seal a rotating shaft against a stationary housing.

  • A radial shaft seal ( for low pressure applications )
  • Axialwellendichtring ( for secondary sealing tasks)
  • Mechanical seal (suitable for high pressures up to 300 bar)
  • Brush seal

Non-contact seals

Non-contact seals are used primarily for dynamic seals.

  • Pressure and throttle seals: labyrinth seal
  • Magnetic fluid seal
  • Chamber seal
  • Sealing air (eg in department store entrances )
  • Barrier fluid for a trap
  • Slinger
  • Thrower
  • Labyrinth seal
  • Shaft seals Threaded shaft seal

Apart from the magnetic fluid seal their sealing is not perfect, but merely limiting, since a small gap free cross-section remains.
