Gaspard le Roux

Gaspard le Roux (* 1660 in Paris; † around 1707 ) was a French harpsichordist and composer of the Baroque.

Life

The little that is known of Gaspard le Roux, is a mention in a list of distinguished professors in Paris and a single collection of 41 suites for one or two harpsichords, which appeared in 1705 at Estienne Roger in Amsterdam. The pieces are about 10 years earlier emerged. In the preface to le Roux stated that a pressure is necessary because so many defective copies circulated. This collection, which Pièces de Clavessin, added to those of Jean -Henri d' Anglebert and François Couperin in the French tradition and a form without a doubt the most important harpsichord book between the two other composers. Johann Georg Walther copied about half of the collection and mentioned le Roux in his Musicalisches Lexicon of 1732.

In addition, only a single motet ( Thuri odor ) and a 1701 at the Publisher Tessier in a Recueil d' airs à boire et sérieux published Air de Cour are preserved under his name.

Gaspard le Roux was the first of a few Baroque composers wrote works for two harpsichords. Most of his compositions were written for harpsichord solo.
