Gaster District

The district Gaster was until the end of 2002, an administrative unit of the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland. The term comes from the Latin " castrum". As a geographical name he means the plane between Weesen and Uznach right of Linth.

The district Gaster was founded in 1831 by the division of the district Uznach and comprises roughly the territory of the former Bailiwick Windegg (except the municipality fourths ). The district Gaster was dissolved after the adoption of the new St. Gallen cantonal constitution in 2001 and part of the constituency newly created See-Gaster.
