Gastón Gaudio

Gastón Norberto Gaudio ( born December 9, 1978 in Buenos Aires ) is a former Argentine tennis player. His nickname is El gato (English: The cat).

His greatest sporting success came Gaudio 2004 by winning the individual title at the French Open. In the first all- Argentine final in the history of the tournament, he defeated Guillermo Coria with 0:6, 3:6, 6:4, 6:1, 8:6. He is next to Mats Wilander in 1982 and Gustavo Kuerten in 1997 the only player who won the French Open as unseeded.

With this victory Gaudio reached for the first time in his career the top 10 of the ATP world rankings.

In August 2011, Gastón Gaudio announced, after a year long not played a match, officially announced his retirement from professional tennis.
