Gasztony ( dt gas Ting ) is a town in Vas county in the small area Szentgotthárd in Hungary.

Geography

The place is located in the west of the country, about 3 kilometers from the Austrian border.

Geographical Location

The small elongated village is situated on the western edge of the Pannonian Plain, on the left bank of the Raab.

History

Gasztony, founded in 1269, was part of the county Vas and marked before 1848 by the families of wealthy landowners such as the Gasztonys, Zelles, Szell and Csehs. It was known the place in 1900, by the locally born Hungarian Prime Minister Kálmán Szell, who lived in the neighboring Rátót.
