Gate to the East
Gate of the Orient (东方 之 门Chinese, Pinyin Dongfang Zhīmén, Gateway to the East ' ) is to be one of the tallest skyscrapers in Suzhou with 302 meters and 68 floors. The building marks the eastern end of the East-West axis of Suzhou on the shores of Jinji Lake.
Architectural History
Construction began in 2004 and completion is planned for 2014. The full height was reached in 2012. The construction costs of the building in the city of Wuzhong District amounted to 700 million U.S. dollars. The building was designed by the British architects RMJM (Robert Matthew Johnson Marshall), which was founded in 1956 by the architects Robert Matthew and Stirrat Johnson - Marshall in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Criticism
As the building is supposedly looks like a pair of pants, it is the subject of extensive criticism and ridicule.
