Gateway is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Lee County in the U.S. state of Florida with 8,401 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Gateway is affected by the Florida State Road 82 and is located just east of Fort Myers. Tampa is located about 210 miles and Miami 220 km away.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 8,401 inhabitants distributed to 4,108 households. The population density was 976.9 inh. / Km ². 87.9 % of the population were white, 5.0% African American, 0.2% Native American and 3.1% Asian Americans. 1.6% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.3% in different ethnic groups. 11.2% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 23.4 % of all households lived in 38.3 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 77.2 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.66 persons and the average family size was 3.01 persons.

28.8 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 22.3% were 20-39 years old, 28.9 % were 40-59 years old and 19.8 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 39 years. 49.3 % of the population were male and 50.7 % female.

The average annual income was $ 91,611, while 2.5 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 94.81 % of the population spoke Spanish 4.07% and 1.11 % spoke German.
