Gattinara DOCG

Gattinara is an Italian red wine made from the Nebbiolo grape ( locally known as Spanna ) from the mountains in the provinces of Vercelli and Novara, Piedmont. The name, the wine of the same community Gattinara the province of Vercelli with 8610 inhabitants.

The wine has the status Denomination of Origin Controlled and Guaranteed ( DOCG). The production area covers only 103 hectares of which 95 hectares are currently in earnings. The vineyards are situated on both sides of the river Sesia, near the community Ghemme. Due to the height of the location of a safe ripening Nebbiolo is not always given. The wine is therefore not grown as a pure Nebbiolowein, but as a blend or in the Joint set with the varieties Bonarda di Gattinara ( fraction 0-10%) and / or Vespolina (proportion of 0-4 %).

The wine is aged two to three years in oak barrels in the rule, then dwells at least six months in the bottle and can then mature for four to ten years with the buyer. The price of a bottle is 20-23 euros.
