Geographical location

Gau- Bishop Home is a wine village on the southern outskirts of Mainz. In the vernacular of the village " Bischem " is called. The close proximity to Mainz and the sometimes excellent location of the vineyards have marked the place. The wine-growing area is 79 ha prince-bishops of Mainz had here its wineries from time immemorial. Some of the wineries are evidence of this tradition. Structures

  • In the center of the village lies the Unterhof, a time-honored former Hofgut, which today houses the local government, the community center and the Unterhofkeller are. The courtyard, protected by a huge ancient oak, offers an ideal setting for summer festivals and cultural events.
  • A special gem in the parish church is the famous scourge organ by Johann Peter scourge, the oldest organ of the diocese of Mainz, which had stood until 1773 in the Church of St. Christopher in Mainz. Organ concerts with international artists belong to the cultural highlights of the village life.

  • Main festivals are the Carnival and the notch.
  • Wednesdays 14:00 bis 18:00 clock under the motto " vorbeischau'n, babbele, oikaafe " ( " stop by / come talk / chat, and keep shopping " ) since May 2005, a weekly market in Unterhof instead.

Traffic

  • The nearest motorway junction is Mainz- Hechtsheim West about 6 miles on the Autobahn 60.
  • From September 28 1896 to May 31, 1985, the railway Amiche ( Alzey- floor home ) by Gau- bishop 's home. Today, the tracks have been dismantled and the Amiche bike trail has been created there.
