Gaudencio Rosales

Gaudencio Cardinal Borbon Rosales ( born August 10, 1932 in Batangas City, Batangas, Philippines) is a retired Archbishop of Manila.

Life

Rosales was born as a child of Godofredo D. Rosales and Remedios M. Borbon on August 10, 1932 in Batangas City and has six siblings. After studying Catholic theology received on 23 March 1958 by the Archbishop of Lipa, Alejandro Olalia, the sacrament of Holy Orders. Subsequently, he worked first as rector of the seminary, then as a pastor in the Archdiocese of Lipa.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on 12 August 1974 Titular Bishop of Oescus and Auxiliary Bishop of Manila. He received his episcopal consecration by the Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, Bruno Torpigliani, on 28 October of the same year.

On June 9, 1982, Pope John Paul II appointed Coadjutor Bishop in the Diocese of Malaybalay, and was on September 14, 1984 Rosales bishop of this diocese. On December 30, 1992, he was appointed Archbishop of Lipa, and was appointed his successor as Archbishop of Manila according to the age-related resignation of Jaime Lachica Cardinal Sin on September 15, 2003.
