Gauliga Ostmark

The range Class 17 of the National Socialist Reich Federation for Physical Education was a football sports in the German Empire at the time of National Socialism.

General

The area encompassed class from 1938 until the dissolution of 1945, the annexed territories of eastern Austria, southern Czechoslovakia and northern Yugoslavia. In the area class (also area league) one of the participants was played for the German Football Championship in the same football league. The sporting significance, however, was undermined by the events of war on the one hand, and the advantage of contacts of individual clubs to NSDAP politicians on the other. Below the area league existed for many seasons to Gau- level. As a historical particularity is to be noted that years after the war, the victorious teams began to expel the NSRL title as Austrian Championships until finally the OFB has followed this example, but without ever going to explain in a meeting as such.
