Gauliga Sachsen

The Gauliga Saxony was one of 16 top football leagues, which were founded after the Nazi seizure of power in Germany in 1933. In it, the Saxon participants was determined in the final round of the German Cup.

History

The Gauliga Saxony started their 1933 season opener with eleven teams played until 1939 but constant with ten clubs. In the season 1939/40, the league was briefly increased to two squadrons. The following season the Gauliga was again denied a single track, the number of participants commuted this to 1944 between ten and twelve.

On sports league was clearly established at the time of its existence from the Dresdner SC, where a total of six championships import. In the related participations in the German championships of the Saxon representative won in seasons 1942/43 and 1943/44, twice the Victoria. Rival VfB Leipzig was not able to Gaumeisterschaften on earlier successes, and remained until 1944 without a title. The dominance of the DSC was only interrupted by the police -SV Chemnitz, BC Hartha and the Planitzer SC.

In the season 1944/45, the Saxon Gauliga was only played regionally. The league was divided into groups of Dresden, Leipzig, Chemnitz and Zwickau Sachsen- West. The game mode, however, came through the turmoil of war after a few game days to a halt.

The season 1944/45, was brought into the group in Leipzig two seasons to a conclusion. Saxon war class - Sports circle Leipzig battlefield -. Season winner VfB Leipzig and Sportfreunde Markranstadt. Playoffs: Markranstadt - VfB Leipzig 3:3, VfB Leipzig - Markranstadt 3:2
