Gauliga Schlesien

The Gauliga Silesia was one of the top German football leagues in the era of National Socialism. It existed until the war-related crash in 1941 and was subsequently replaced by the Gauligen Lower Silesia and Upper Silesia.

History

Starting in 1933, ten teams played in the Gauliga Silesia for the title of Gaumeisters who was eligible to participate in the final round of the German soccer championship. For the season 1939/40, the league was split into two seasons due to the war. First attended six or eight teams, because of the withdrawal of SV Ratibor 03 and STC Görlitz the leagues were played to the end, each with a team less. The area championship was played between the winners of Season Forward - turf sports Gliwice and Wroclaw FV 06. In the following season was played with eleven teams in a single-track league, on 30 March 1941, however, the war-related termination of the championship. Previous year and the series champion forward turf sports Gleiwitz was determined to represent the Gauliga, although at this stage Germania Königshütte led the championship.

In the following season the league was divided into the Gauligen Lower Silesia and Upper Silesia.
