Gauliga Sudetenland

The Gauliga Sudetenland was one of the top leagues in the era of National Socialism.

History

In the Gauliga Sudetenland played from 1938 teams from the annexed Sudetenland after the Munich Agreement to the Gaumeisterschaft and thus to participate in the final round of the German football championship.

In the first season the championship was contested among the four district champions in Cup mode. From 1939 there were two groups, the winners among themselves determined the Gaumeister. The seasons each began with twelve teams during the season but had regularly eliminated teams from the game operation. In the season 1940/41, therefore, took part in the competition at the end of the season, only seven teams.

1941, the number of groups was increased to three, now found 18 teams in the Premier League place. The three season winners played in the finals of the regional champion, who represented the Sportgau in the final round of the German Cup. The following season they retained the mode, but again had the problem that a number of clubs got out of the championship course of the season.

1943, the teams were moved from the east of Sportgaus in the Gauliga Bohemia - Moravia, so that again the championship was played in only two groups. In the following season the game operation has been canceled due to the war shortly after the season starts.

The teams from the Sudetenland had no chance at the finals of the German soccer championship. None of the finals matches could be won. Only NSTG Graslitz succeeded in 1940, a 4-4 draw against forward - turf sports Gliwice and 1941 could NSTG Prague Tennis Borussia Berlin wrest a 0-0 draw.
