The development of Gauloises tobacco

For a long time Gauloises known for its dark, strong tobacco. In addition, the strength of the smoke through the corn paper, on which the cigarettes were rotated was further intensified. So Gauloises were sometimes referred to as " unrauchbar ".

The corn paper version also had the property that the cigarette went out, if not regularly pulled. So you came for a long time used in France habit to keep the cigarette in his mouth long, opposite and was therefore particularly popular with artisans. In this respect, the stereotypical image of the " storybook French" with the cigarette in his mouth was significantly influenced by it. However, the version with "normal" paper over the corn paper version was always more widespread and lasted until the 1980s, as the classic French cigarette. It was offered in different presentations. The most common and classic version was the filterless cigarette in the blue package with the icon of the mapped on all packs of Gauloises, allegedly Gallic wing helmet. Later came a filter version ( Disque Bleu ) and a lighter version added ( légère ); the French tobacco but were always maintained.

In France, however, changed the smoking habits, and especially by younger smokers dropped the demand for this type of cigarette after. The trend was reinforced in the direction of " international brands ". The typical French tobacco has now been replaced by bright Virginia tobacco. These cigarettes were marketed as Gauloises Blondes on the market. However, it will continue even conventional Gauloises sold that now bear the additional name Brunes. Corn paper is no longer used for their preparation.

While Gauloises earlier were significantly cheaper than " international brands " in France, was also accompanied by a price increase with the change of the recipe and brand image.

In addition to classic Gauloises blue (strong ) and Gauloises red (light) are also obtained Gauloises Yellow ( ultra light ), Gauloises green ( menthol, strong) and three ( Gauloises Blondes Blue / Red and Gauloises Melange Original ) Fine- cut versions for rolling cigarettes. There are also Gauloises Brunes with or without filter (formerly Gauloises Caporal ), both made of black tobacco ( Markzware ). It is continuously tried both with the name of the brand but also the advertising to convey a " typical French " image of all Gauloises brand products.

Gauloises occurred and occurs as a sponsor in motorsports. Among other things, Prost Grand Prix and the Yamahawerksteam were Benetton Formula, sponsored by Valentino Rossi. But currently the KTM factory team will only be supported in the Rally Raid area.
