Gavin MacLeod

Gavin MacLeod ( born February 28, 1930 in Mount Kisco, New York Allan Lake George ) is an American actor.

Life

Born in Mount Kisco as Allan Lake George Gavin MacLeod grew up in Pleasantville, New York. After the completion of the Ithaca College MacLeod moved in 1952 to New York City. There he earned as elevator operator at Radio City Music Hall for a living. During this time he took the name Gavin MacLeod; the first name is derived from a diseased cerebral palsy character in a TV movie, the last name of Beatrice MacLeod, a drama teacher at Ithaca College. In 1956 he played successfully on Broadway in A Hatful of Rain, the work at the theater led him to Los Angeles, where he focused on film and television roles. He played numerous supporting roles, mostly as a mysterious villain. From 1972, he played a completely contrasting character in comparison to his previous roles. As a nice but sarcastic news editor Murray Slaughter he made in the fictional Studio WMJ the Mary Tyler Moore Show always for the right spell. Private life

In 1954, Gavin MacLeod Joan Devore, with whom he had four children married. The couple divorced in 1972.
