Gavutu

Gavutu is an island of the Florida Islands in the Central Province, Solomon Islands. Its largest dimension is about 500 meters.

After their conquest of 1942, the Japanese Navy taught on the island a seaplane base. During the landing phase of the battle of Guadalcanal, the island and its neighboring island Tanambogo were on 7/8 August 1942 occupied by U.S. marines.
