Gay, Orenburg Oblast
Gai (in Russian Гай ) is a town with 38 301 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) in the south-east of the Ural in Orenburg Oblast of the Russian Federation.
Geography
The city is located about 35 km north of the two cities and Orsk Novotroitsk, and about 330 km east of the regional capital Orenburg. About six miles from the town there is a spa.
History
Gai was founded in 1959 as the location for a Kupfererzabbaukombinat, which is still the main employer remained in the city. The name Gai is a South Russian regionalism for grove, small ( deciduous ) forest and refers to a birch forest, is said to have existed there at the founding of the city.

Economy
The most important operation is the mining and ore mining and processing of Gai AG ( АО " Гайский горно - обогатительный комбинат "). The copper ore is both underground and above ground mined and processed in our own factory. The company employs nearly 7,000 workers and contributes about 60 % of the budget of the city.
Another large company is the factory for non-ferrous metals ( Гайский завод по обработке цветных металлов ). Here Sheets, strips and foils are made of copper and different alloys.
Further, there is a poultry plant, dairy, and a large factory, a bread.
Traffic
While there is a railroad to Gai, but which is only used for freight transport. For regular buses to nearby city Orsk and Orenburg regional capital. In the city there are public transport buses.
