Gazi, Crete

The Municipality Gazi (Greek Γάζι (n. sg. ) ) Is the administrative center of the municipality Malevizi in the north of the Greek island of Crete. Gazi has 14,640 inhabitants, of which 12,606 live in the urban core ( 2011).

Location

The city is located west of the Cretan capital Heraklion, about 6 km from the port. The motorway A 90 to the south there are 1 km, to the sea to the north at Agios Panteleimon Skafidaras and about 2 km.

Economy and infrastructure

Main occupation of the inhabitants is agriculture, above all, wine and olives. It produces oil and raisins. The village has a primary school, a secondary school and a medical center.
