Gaziemir is a district of İzmir Province, while the district of the city of Izmir on the west coast of Turkey. The district lies to the south of the center ( Konak ) of the city. Gaziemir is on its way to Adnan Menderes Airport, the industrial park and the city's port. Gaziemir has 112,149 (2008) inhabitants living on an area of 63 km ².

History

Gaziemir was first mentioned in the 14th century by Gazi Umur Bey in conjunction with Aydın and Yörük clan of Konya. The development of the city can be easily traced through the centuries by the periodic evidence of the Ottomans. Since the 17th century up to the present time have been exported all over the olives, figs, cotton and raisins.

The Greek population, which was the majority of the population of the city until then, was replaced after the Greco- Turkish War (1919-1922) and replaced by Turkish immigrants from Kavala region in Greece and Bulgaria. Seydiköy in 1926 to a municipality and was renamed Gaziemir, after the original founder, Gazi Umur Bey.

Economy and infrastructure

Gaziemir is now one of the most industrial districts of Izmir. The place is dotted with high-rise buildings, modern buildings and many shopping centers (Migros, Metro, Kipa etc.). First of all trades at home and office furniture.
