The Geospatial Data Abstraction Library ( GDAL ) is a free library for the translation of spatial raster data. As a program library, it presents the calling programs, a unified data model for all supported formats. However, there are also several command line utilities included, with which data can be directly edited and converted. Also included is the program library OGR ( OGR Simple Features Library), provides similar functions for vector data.
In addition to the standard formats for raster data, namely JFIF, GIF, PNG and GeoTIFF, GDAL can read more than 60 other file formats. However, can not be written all of these formats. OGR supports over 20 vector data formats, but can not convert all supported formats also.
