The Hala Sportowo - Widowiskowa Gdynia ( German sports and entertainment venue Gdynia ) is a multi-purpose hall in the northern Polish city of Gdynia, Pomeranian Voivodeship. The main users are the men's team of the basketball club Asseco Prokom Gdynia (Polish Basketball League ) and the women's team Lotos Gdynia (Polish women 's basketball league ) and the women's handball team Laczpol Gdynia (Polish women 's handball league). The audience capacity amounts to 4,334 seats. It lies just north of the GOSiR stadium.

History

The Construction of the plant began in mid-2004 and on 23 July of the year was the groundbreaking ceremony. Completion was scheduled for the year 2005/ 06. After occurring defects ( errors in the calculation of structural analysis and possible danger of collapse ) in the planning of the construction was interrupted and resumed in April 2008. At the end of the year on December 22, the arena was officially opened. The initially estimated construction cost of 45 million zloty almost doubled to reach 86 million zloty. The venue is mostly surrounded by a green wall. About the roof runs a strip of glass elements; he allows daylight into the hall. In the hall are, inter alia, Changing rooms for players, coaches, referees and performing artists are available. Furthermore, medical rooms, a gym, a sauna and a restaurant, a press center and conference rooms. The hall is illuminated with a light intensity of 2,800 lux; this allows transfers of high definition television. Front of the hall are available 450 car parking spaces and 10 bus parking spaces.

The first sporting event in the new building was a basketball game of the Euro League Women between Lotos Gdynia and Fenerbahçe Istanbul on 30 January 2009. The hall meets the requirements of the World Basketball Association FIBA. In addition to the games of the three Heinmmannschaften Asseco Prokom Gdynia, Lotos Gdynia and Laczpol Gdynia find Volleyball games of the Polish women's national handball games (including women - caps), kickboxing events ( Beast of the East 2009 and 2010), boxing and concerts and entertainment events (eg The Sweet, Slade, Smokie, Lord of the Dance, Electric Light Orchestra, Disney Concert ) instead.
