GE Capital Aviation Services (formerly GE Commercial Aviation Service ) - short GECAS - is a leading US-based aircraft leasing company based in Stamford.

Business

The company was founded in 1964 and is a subsidiary of GE Commercial Finance, which belongs to General Electric.

GECAS is one of the most important and largest lessors of aircraft worldwide. 225 airlines in 60 countries have leased their aircraft over GECAS to airlines as this represents an attractive opportunity to reduce their cost of capital. For this option GECAS often occurs also in sale-and -lease- back transactions as purchaser and subsequent lessor.

In 2005 a profit of 764 million U.S. dollars was earned on revenues of 3.504 billion U.S. dollars. Since spring 2010, the company is managed within the GE Group as Commercial Lending and Leasing (CLL ).

The fleet consists of state of the end of 2012 from 1742 passenger and cargo aircraft, most of Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier and Embraer. Almost the entire fleet is equipped with engines from GE Aviation, another subsidiary of General Electric.

Main competitor is the U.S. ILFC (International Lease Finance Corporation).
