Geary–Khamis dollar

The International dollars (or Geary - Khamis dollars, according to Roy C. Geary and Salem Hanna Khamis ) is calculated by the World Bank Comparative currency.

The International Dollar originated in the 1960s at the University of Pennsylvania in the " International Comparison Programme " (International Comparison Program). This program was commissioned by the World Bank in order. The objective was to determine a per capita income that is internationally comparable. By fixed or only partially flexible exchange rates and international capital movements those calculated in the currency market exchange rates can not guarantee this.

Basis of International Dollars is the U.S. dollar. An international dollar is always equal to one U.S. dollar. Conversion factor of all other currencies, the purchasing power parities (PPPs). The PPP is the number of domestic currency units, which is needed to buy domestically the same amount of goods that must be purchased in the U.S. for a U.S. dollar. The traded goods must be identical or at least comparable.

The calculations of the International dollars are complicated and the result is only an approximation of the true value.

Fulfills a similar function called the Big Mac index.
