Biography

In the fall of 1967 Butler founded along with his school friend John " Ozzy " Osbourne formed his first band Rare Breed. Reformed After a short separation, the two musicians was, but then renamed early in 1969 with guitarist Tony Iommi and drummer Bill Ward in the Polka Tulk Blues Band, which was later renamed to Earth because of an eponymous English group again in Black Sabbath. The name was suggested by Butler, he comes from a horror movie of the same name by Mario Bava with Boris Karloff. Although Ozzy Osbourne is the lead singer of the band, Geezer Butler wrote most, often acting of Satanism and dark lyrics customs.

In the early days of Black Sabbath Butler initially played rhythm guitar, but Tony Iommi soon gave him to understand that he did not want to play with a second guitarist together so moved Geezer on bass. Butler was said to be one of the first bass player who used a wah -wah pedal, for example at the beginning of NIB on the debut album of the group Black Sabbath. This bass intro inspired many later bassists, so, for example, the first Metallica bassist Cliff Burton, who called Geezer Butler as a model. In addition, Butler was one of the first who voted down their e- bass on purpose. He did it right, Tony Iommi, as this required a low string tension due to an accident. Geezer tuned his instrument as three half steps down. Shutting votes is now common in many heavy metal bands.

1984 Butler left the group to found the Geezer Butler band. After 1988 Ozzy Osbourne accompanied on a tour and was shortly joined by Black Sabbath in 1991, but wanted to quickly go his own way, he brought out a few solo albums, and finally to the reunion tour back at the British for Ozzy Osbourne and Tony Iommi enter.
