Geislingen is a city in Zollernalbkreis in Baden- Württemberg, Germany, about 60 kilometers south of Stuttgart and three kilometers west of the county town Balingen.

Boroughs

The Geislingen consists of the three districts Geislingen, Geislingen - Binsdorf and Geislingen - Erlaheim that are spatially identical to the previous municipalities of the same name.

The municipal council is elected according to the system of loggerhead part of local choice. According to the electoral area is divided into electoral districts, which are identical to the districts and are designated according to the Baden-Württemberg municipal code as residential districts. History

Geislingen

Southwest of Geislingen was in Roman times a fort of Alblimes, which was discovered in 1986 in the aerial view. In science, it has the name fort Geislingen / Häsenbühl. For quite some time Roman settlement remains are known, belonging probably to a vicus. Beside the road, the Rottweil and Rottenburg had in common was a monument with an inscription Emperor.

Geislingen was founded during the Alemannic land acquisition between the 3rd and 6th centuries AD. The typical -ingen suffix refers to a clan under the leadership of a Gisilio.

In the 14th century, the lords of Mayrhofen boys were those of the local rule. They sat first in a castle which stood near the present castle. 1426 Built Wolf the Elder of boys Mayrhofen the present castle ( today's north-west wing ). Through inheritance over several families Geislingen came in 1762 to the barons von Stauffenberg. This built the castle in its present form. Erlaheim and Binsdorf

Erlaheim and Binsdorf among western Austria. Both came to Württemberg in 1804.

The mayor is elected by direct vote for a term of eight years. Since 2007, Oliver Schmid (independent) Mayor of Geislingen. He replaced Martin Günther Pauli (CDU ), who served from 1997 to 2007.

The national road 415 connects Geislingen in the west with the Federal Highway 81 at Oberndorf am Neckar and in the east with Balingen and thus by the federal highway 27 Binsdorf is on the county road 7121 and Erlaheim on the K 7122 connected to the L 415.
