Geography

The long-drawn Waldhufendorf located in southwest-northeast direction in the north of Erzgebirgskreises. The lowest point is the valley of Wilisch. The highest point is the Auerbach height of 640 m.

Neighboring communities

In the north east borders the Official Mountain, to the east Venusberg, in the south Thum, in the southwest of Auerbach, in the west and in the north Gornsdorf Burkhardt village to the community.

History

Documentary mention was the first place in the form of personal names, the first time in 1256, as a Heinricus de Gelene is attested, which is to suggest to the lowland castle today called Hofteich or Hofwall. As an independent place name Gelynowe emerges for the first time in 1299.

The place was from the beginning from a dominant dichotomy. The northern side of town and the estate belonged to the rule of Waldenburg, the southern side to the location of Schellenberg. 1533, the family bought Schoenberg place and manor.

With the advent of hosiery from the mid-18th century, the hitherto predominantly peasant economy situation has changed dramatically. Many residents took the new possibility to earn true. The municipal election held on 7 June 2009 resulted in the following distribution of the 16 seats in the municipal council:

Coat of arms

The coat of arms combines history and economic position of the community. The lion in the upper part of the arms comes from the coat of arms of the noble family of Schoenberg, which co-determined the history of the community relevant. While the crossed coils symbolize the local textile industry, the ploughshare is a sign of the agriculture of the place.

Community partnerships

Since 1990, a partnership with the Lower Saxon town Hasbergen. For the Danish community Skørping (since 2007 part of the municipality Rebild ) 1996 partnership relations were established. In 1999, the Czech Nove Saddleback, 2000 Nagyhegyes in Hungary and 2001 Parry Sound came to Canada to do so.

Memorials
