Gellius Maximus

Gellius Maximus ( probably † 219) was 219 Roman rival emperors.

Gellius Maximus rose in spite of his humble origin on to the Senator. In Syria, he commanded the Legio IIII Scythica. In the year 219 he took the troubled political situation under the emperor Elagabalus and proclaimed himself emperor. However, Elagabalus was master of the situation and fought against the usurper. Gellius Maximus was eventually executed.

Main source to Gellius Maximus is his contemporary Dio Cassius. This reported in the 80th book of his History of Rome by the Syrian anti-emperor.
