Gelterfingen is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

Gelterfingen is located on 552 m above sea level. M., 13 km south-southeast of the capital of the canton of Bern ( straight line ). The farming village stretches along the eastern edge of the Gürbetalebene slightly increased on the alluvial fan of Bach's village on the southwestern foot of the Belpberg. Thanks to its location on the sunny side of the mountain has Gelterfingen compared to the surrounding countryside on a very mild climate.

The area of ​​3.5 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Gürbetal. The western boundary runs mostly along the channelized and straightened Gürbe. From here, the communal land extends eastward across the intensively farmed valley ( 1 km wide) with the passage of Müsche and over the slope of Gelterfingen to the edge of the plateau of the Belpberg. The southwestern slope of Belpberg is and partially crossed in most places very steep sandstone rocks. While the steep slopes are covered with forest ( Kramburgwald, Berghölzli ), the lower slope section is composed of meadows. With 823 m above sea level. M. is south of harrows Horn reached the highest elevation of Gelterfingen. The northern boundary is the little valley of Revels. Population

With 254 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Gelterfingen one of the small communities of the Canton of Bern. Of the residents 98.0 % are German, 0.4 % Italian-speaking and 0.4 % speak Portuguese (as of 2000). The population of Gelterfingen amounted in 1850 to 299 residents in 1900 to 243 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population fluctuated in the range of 240-310 people, but had larger fluctuations on. Since 1990 (303 inhabitants), a significant decrease in population was recorded.

Economy

Was Gelterfingen until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the farming and market gardening in the fertile soil of the Gürbetal, as well as the dairy and cattle breeding in the higher layers have an important place in the economic structure of the population. The formerly widespread cultivation of cabbage is in decline. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available, including companies in the wood processing and the automotive industry. Many workers are also commuters who work mainly in the larger towns in the area, in the agglomeration of Bern and Thun.

Traffic

The community is located off the major thoroughfares on a link road from Belp to Kirchdorf ( BE). The nearest links to the motorway A6 ( Bern- Thun) is located about 8 km from the village. By Postbus course, which serves the route from Belp to Kirchdorf, Gelterfingen is connected to the public transport network.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1345 under the name Geltolfingen; by 1364 the name Gelterfingen is preserved. The name goes back to the Old High German personal name Gildulf or Geltolf and accordingly is with the people of Gildulf / Geltolf.

Gelterfingen developed under the Castle Kramburg that probably already existed in the 12th century. The Barons of Kramburg were a Ministerialengeschlecht of the Counts of Kyburg and had the area of Gelterfingen, Gerzensee and Uttigen they chosen in the 13th century to its headquarters. After the family of the Barons of Kramburg was extinguished by 1355, the property came in 1373 at the Knights Coming Münchenbuchsee. Under immediater Bernese rule (from 1528, after the secularization of Coming ) Kramburg respectively Gelterfingen was elevated to a Venner court, which was subordinate to the district court Seftigen.

After the collapse of the city and Republic of Berne (1798 ) was one Gelterfingen during the Helvetic Republic to the District Seftigen and from 1803 to Oberamt Seftigen, which was given the status of an office district with the new cantonal constitution of 1831. As of 1855, the Gürbe was corrected which had previously often flooded the entire valley floor. This was won with the time valuable farmland. The last major land improvement took place 1942-1951.

Attractions

In Gelterfingen various stately farmhouses dating from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved. Some vestiges of the former castle Kramburg are visible in the forest above the village. Gelterfingen does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish church village.
