Gem Squash

The Gem Squash ( usually just called squash or Squashy, of English: gem " gem " and squash " squash " ) is a species of the garden squash ( Cucurbita pepo) from South Africa.

Description

He has a thin, smooth and dark green skin, white to slightly yellowish flesh, a round or slightly oval in shape with a diameter of 5 to 15 cm. The pulp forms after cooking, unlike the similar-looking round zucchini varieties, a bright, fibrous ( spaghetti -like ) mass. This has a nutty flavor - in contrast to most other pumpkins without the otherwise typical pumpkin flavor.

For longer storage, the color of the flesh and the shell changed towards yellow to orange.

Young, immature fruits can be used as zucchini.

Cultivation

A Propagation from seed is possible.

In South Africa, is one of the most popular market places.

A cultivation in Germany is possible even in harsh regions without difficulty.

Synonyms
