Genderkingen

Genderkingen is a municipality in the Swabian district of Donau-Ries and a member of the administrative community Rain.

It is located 37.6 km north of Augsburg and near the mouth of the Lech river into the Danube.

History

Probably the foundation of the town falls within the period between the 5th and the 7th century and the village itself quickly developed into a village to the Bavarians. On April 29, 1478 the village came into the possession of the Cistercian monastery Kaisheim. 1803, the community was incorporated into the Kingdom of Bavaria in the course of the secularization of the monastery Kaisheim.

The end of the Second World War was marked in Genderkingen by the arrival of American troops on 25 April 1945.

Culture and sights

  • Catholic parish church of St. Peter and Paul, site of the early work of the Rococo painter Johann Baptist Enderle.
  • With a " water band" redesigned village square between the church and the town hall.

Traffic

Genderkingen maintains a direct connection to the B 16 and is about 3 km from the B 2. At the site there is a railway station of Donautalbahn and a special airfield.
