Gene Allen

Gene Allen ( born June 17, 1918 in Los Angeles ) is an American art director.

Life

Gene Allen was already in the school talent for drawing. But the son of a captain of the Los Angeles Police Department, he went first to the LA Police Academy, which gave him ideas for future screenplays. He made countless little drawings he then sixty years later brought to life. With the onset of World War II, he ended his police career and joined the U.S. Navy. He graduated from the Carthay Center Grammar School, John Burroughs Junior High School and Fairfax. After that he went to Santa Monica to the junior college, but only for a very short time. A talented artist, he worked in advertising agencies until he found the way to the movie and very successfully with the director and film producer George Cukor worked.

He won in 1964 the Academy Award for art direction. He was the " Art Directors Guild" before and was 1983-1985 President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

With his wife Iris he has granted the Son, Jon Patrick.
