Gene Bates

2003: Australian Champion - Road Race ( U23 )

Gene Bates (born 4 July 1981 in Stirling ) is an Australian racing cyclist.

Gene Bates began his professional career in 2006 with the Italian Professional Continental team LPR., 2003 he was Australian Champion in the U23 class and later went as a stagiaire at Crédit Agricole. He did not get a professional contract and went back a year later as a stagiaire, this time of Saeco. At the Tour Down Under 2006, he reached a fifth place overall. Even a short time later he showed himself strong in the Tour de Langkawi. He was once a stage second behind Laurent Mangel.
