Fornby genes is an Iron Age settlement in Genesmon, community Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, named. It was the residence of a chief and inhabited AD in the first six centuries. Beginning of the first century AD, the settlement was situated on the seafront and at the mouth of Moälven, silted by the Postglacial land uplift the bay and the running of the Moälven changed, today is the excavation site about four hundred meters from the sea. A total of 15 houses have been excavated, including several long houses and a blacksmith.

The settlement was founded in 1976 found in Wegarbeiten and excavated 1977-1988. The oldest building dates from the 1st n the latest from the 6th century BC The settlement was a few hundred meters from the original location, reconstructed in the appearance of the 6th century and in 1991 opened to the public.

There was a forge in which during a century (probably the fifth century ), according to calculations based on the amounts of slag and ash found about 290 kg of iron was processed. The pig iron from Jämtland has been finished to 171 kg objects, such as household appliances or weapons forged. In the different food sometimes very high percentages were found by burnt bones, this suggests that the blacksmith would partially have a high phosphorus content in iron, these are used to in the finished object causing a damascene pattern. Besides iron, bronze was processed here, including buckles, rings and needles were cast. Traces of gold in the molds found suggest that some of the items were gilded. In the vicinity of the living space more bronze coins were found dating from Roman times, a proof that the people resident had contact with far- traveling merchants.
