Gene Harris

Eugene "Gene " Harris ( born September 1, 1933, Benton Harbor, Michigan, † 16 January 2000 in Boise, Idaho ) was an American jazz pianist. Life

At the age of nine years, Gene Harris taught himself to play the piano. He had his first gigs with local bands and played from 1951 to 1954 in U.S. Army bands. In 1956 he formed the band The Four Sounds from 1957 with bassist Andy Simpkins and drummer Bill Dowdy, the trio The Three Sounds was. The group initially worked in Washington, DC, then came the end of 1958 to New York. With his soul to the trending music the pianist in the tradition of Ahmad Jamal.
