Gene Hartley

Leslie " Gene " Hartley ( born January 28, 1926 in Roanoke, † March 13, 1993 ) was an American race car driver.

Gene Hartley was the son of Midget car racing driver Ted Hartley and won the 1959 USAC National Midget - series. He drove in the 1950s and 1960s in 32 races of the AAA National Series and the USAC Championship. His best finish he achieved in 1956 in Langhorne in second.

In the 500 miles of Indianapolis, he was ten times at the start. His best finish was the tenth rank 1957 in a Lesovsky - Offenhauser. In 1953 he was able to prove with Tony Bettenhausen ninth place, with Bettenhausen drove around three quarters of the distance.

Since his active time as a driver in Indianapolis is almost congruent with the rating of the race for the drivers' world championship, including eight of his ten Indianapolis - offs as a Grand Prix starts.
