Gene Hickerson

Robert Gene Hickerson (* February 15, 1935 in Trenton, Tennessee, † 20 October 2008 in Cleveland, Ohio) was an American football player.

Career

Hickerson began his career as a football player already at the high school. During his education at the University of Mississippi, he was already considered one of the best offensive players in the Southeastern Conference. He was then obliged by the Cleveland Browns during the NFL Drafts 1957. He remained on the whole course of his professional career in the U.S. professional league NFL in the same club. After three seasons, he broke his leg and had to stop in 1961 due to injury. Between 1962 and his retirement in 1973, he played as a guard without another game to complain about. In 1964 he succeeded with the Browns winning the NFL championship. He was nominated in 1964 seven times in a row in the All-Pro team as well as from 1965, six times in a row for the Pro Bowl. He also belongs to the National Football League 1960s All- Decade team of the best NFL players of the 1960s. In 2007 he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
