Gene Okerlund

Eugene " Mean Gene " Okerlund ( born November 29, 1938 in Robbinsdale, Minnesota, United States) is one of the most famous journalists who were in the last decades in wrestling. He worked both as a commentator, ring announcer, interviewer and presenter active and the largest wrestling organization.

Career

After obtaining his university degree in West Virginia Okerlund worked as a disc jockey for a local radio station in Omaha, Nebraska.

From 1974, he worked as a substitute for the ring announcer and interviewer in the American Wrestling Association, he replaced the late 1970s completely. In 1984 he went to the then World Wrestling Federation (now WWE), which was located at that time on the upswing. There Okerlund was nine years running and was virtually omnipresent. He worked as a ring announcer, interviewer, commentator and presenter. Once he played along with Hulk Hogan even a match against Mr. Fuji and George Steele, which won his team. On November 12, 1985 had Okerlund along with Hulk Hogan, Bobby Heenan, Ricky Steamboat, Davey Boy Smith, Corporal Kirschner, Dynamite Kid and Big John Studd a guest appearance in the TV series The A-Team.

In September 1993, he left the WWF and was hired as an interviewer for World Championship Wrestling. Again, he worked in the above positions. Until the acquisition of WCW by the WWF on 26 March 2001 Okerlund was active in WCW. Also Okerlund took over and has since worked again for the WWF, but resigned and was shorter to 2002 presenter of WWE Confidential. Today Okerlund works in the historical archive of the moderated WWE and WWE Vintage Collection, as well as the 24/7 WWE Hall of Fame - section.

On 1 April 2006 Okerlund was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. The eulogy was Hulk Hogan.
