Gene Scott (tennis)

Lytton Eugene "Gene " Scott ( born December 28, 1937 in New York City; † March 20, 2006 in Rochester, Minnesota) was an American tennis player.

Career

Scott was a famous tennis player in the 1960s. In 1963, he reached the fourth place in the ranking of amateurs. He was a member of the U.S. team in the Davis Cup, where he played together with Arthur Ashe. In 1974 he founded the magazine Tennis Week.

Gene Scott was after his career as a competitive athlete in the different age groups in each of the best players. In 2004, he won the championship of the U.S. Lawn Tennis Association ( USTA ) in the age group M65 and the individual World Championship International Tennis Federation ( ITF) in the same age group. 2008 was his posthumous induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
