Gene Taylor (Mississippi politician)

Gary Eugene "Gene " Taylor ( born September 17, 1953 in New Orleans, Louisiana) is an American politician. Between 1989 and 2003 he represented the fifth electoral district of the state of Mississippi in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2003 to 2011 he was the representative of the third electoral district.

Career

Gene Taylor attended until 1971, the Dela Salle High School in New Orleans and then studied until 1976 at Tulane University; later he continued his studies at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. From 1971 to 1984 he was a member of the Reserve of the U.S. Coast Guard. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party. From 1981 to 1983 he was a town councilor in Bay St. Louis ( Mississippi). From 1984 to 1989 he was a member of the State Senate.

In the congressional elections of 1988, Taylor ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. After the death of Congressman Larkin I. Smith Taylor was then but elected in the elections due in the fifth district in the Parliament in Washington. In the following years he was confirmed in each case. After a reorganization of constituencies in 2002 he was a Member of the fourth district. Taylor was in the House as one of the most conservative members of the Democratic Party. He agreed with the discussion of impeachment of President Bill Clinton of the Democratic president; this still managed a majority that authorized him to remain in his post. In 2004, Taylor agreed with 54% of the votes in Congress with the Republican deputies. On the other hand, he criticized the budget policies of President George W. Bush and the actions of the federal government to cope with the consequences of Hurricane Katrina. Taylor was a member of the Armed Services Committee and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. He was also represented in two sub-committees. On January 3, 2011, he resigned from the Congress.

He is married to Margaret Gordon Taylor.
