General Comprehensive Operating System

General Comprehensive Operating System ( GCOS ) is a family of operating systems that was originally programmed as gecos by the American company General Electric for use on mainframes, and later further developed by Honeywell. Today, only a few systems use this software. In use, they are mainly because of the use of old software which are usually written in GMAP Assembler, Cobol, Fortran or Algol.

The two branches of development GCOS 7 and GCOS 8 run today on mainframe computer manufacturer Bull.
