General Pedernera Department

The Department of General Pedernera lies to the east of the San Luis Province in the western center of Argentina and is one of nine administrative units in the province.

It is bordered on the north by the departments Coronel Pringles and Chacabuco, on the east by the province of Córdoba, to the south by the Departamento Gobernador Dupuy and to the west by the department of La Capital.

The capital of the department of General Pedernera is Villa Mercedes.

Population

According to estimates by the INDEC, the population increased from 110 814 inhabitants (2001) to 132 474 inhabitants in 2005.
