General People's Congress (Libya)

The General People 's Congress of Libya (Arabic مؤتمر الشعب العام, DMG Mu ʾ tamar ash -sha ʿ b al - ʿ Amm ) was de jure in the unicameral parliament of Libya under the dictatorship of Muammar al - Gaddafi. His actual power was low. Decisions were made outside of parliament by Gaddafi and his confidants.

In the People's Congress were of the nearly 500 basis people's congresses, in which the adult population of Libya was gathered, sent about 760 delegates. These delegates in turn elected the Chairman (Secretary General ) of the People's Congress. The chairman was simultaneously the head of state of Libya. Recently the Office Muhammad Abu al -Qasim az- held Zuwai.

The People's Congress was in the capital Tripoli.
