General Security Directorate (Syria)

Idarat al - Amn al - Amm (Arabic إدارة الأمن العام, DMG Idarat al - Amn al - ʿ Amm ) is the most important civilian intelligence service in Syria.

Organization

The Secret Service has three departments:

  • Department of Homeland Security, responsible in particular for the observation of domestic and foreign extremists,
  • Department for external security, ie especially foreign espionage and counterespionage
  • Department of Palestinian Affairs, which deals with Palestinian activities in Syria and Lebanon.

He belongs to the area of the Ministry of Interior. 2001 Hisham Bakhtiar was his boss, was the successor Ali Hammouds, the Minister of Interior. General Bakhtiar is close to Bashar al- Assad's brother in law Assef Shavkat. In the late 20th century Ali Houri was director of the al - Amn al - Idarat Amm.
