Geneva County, Alabama

Geneva County is a county located in the U.S. state of Alabama in the United States. In 2010, the County had 26,790 inhabitants and a population density of 17 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Geneva. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in southern Alabama, on Florida's northern border and has an area of 1499 square kilometers, of which seven square kilometers of water surfaces. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Covington County, Coffee County, Dale County and Houston County.

History

Geneva County was formed on December 26, 1868. It was named after the hometown of Walter H. Youge, a Swiss-born and the first postmaster in the county.

According to the census of 2000, there were 25,764 people in Geneva County.
