Gennaro Di Napoli

Gennaro Di Napoli ( born March 5, 1968 in Naples ) is an Italian former middle and long distance runners.

Born in Naples but raised in Lombardy athlete was in the 1500 meter run and the 3000 -meter run to the world class. Although Di Napoli was not a pure specialist hall, but achieved his greatest successes in the hall with the world titles in 1993 and 1995.

The European Junior Champion in 1987 over 1500 meters difference at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul in the semifinals. The European Athletics Championships 1990 in Split he had only beaten from the GDR Jens- Peter Herold in the final sprint and won in 3:38,60 min silver. At the World Athletics Championships 1991 in Tokyo Di Napoli was in 3:36,56 min eighth.

In 1992 he won at the European Indoor Championships in Genoa 3000 m in 7:47,27 minutes before the Briton John Mayock in 7:48,47 min. At the Olympic Games in Barcelona, he retired about 1500 meters as of 1988 in the semifinals. At the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Toronto in 1993, he won gold over 3000 meters. In 7:50,26 min, it was just ahead of Frenchman Eric Dubus in 7:50,57 min. In Stuttgart at the World Championships in 1993 Di Napoli reached the final, but there was repulsed twelfth and last.

The following year, Di Napoli was at the European Championships in Helsinki ninth in 3:39,96 min. His second victory at World Indoor Championships he celebrated in 1995 in Toronto. In 7:50,89 min he won the sprint ahead of Spanish Anacleto Jiménez ( 7:50,98 min). In the same year he was at the World Championships in Gothenburg Eleventh about 5000 m.

1996 Atlanta reached the Olympic final Di Napoli over 5000 m and was twelfth. At the World Indoor Championships in Paris in 1997 he was in 7:41,05 min fourth. Two years later at the World Indoor Championships in 1999 he was again fourth, this time in 7:55,60 min.

In the European Cup in Athletics Gennaro Di Napoli won the 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1999, the 5000 meters.

Gennaro Di Napoli is 1,85 m tall and weighed 61 kg in his playing days.
