My friend Ben ( Original title: Gentle Ben ) is an American children's adventure series.

Background

This series is based on the novel " Gentle Ben " of the children's book author Walt Morey from the year 1965. It was produced by Ivan Tors ( Flipper ) and was also on German television a classic. 56 episodes of 30 minutes each were filmed from 1967 to 1969. Between 1969 and 1970, the ARD radiated from the first 38 episodes in the early evening. Between 1990 and 1991 showed the first time Pro Sieben the complete series.

My friend Ben is about the friendship between the seven -year-old Mark Wedloe and his black bears Ben in the Everglades of Florida. Marks parents are the gamekeeper Tom and his wife Ellen. Friends of the family are Spencer and Willie.

The main roles were Clint Howard (brother of director Ron Howard) (known from Gunsmoke ) to see and Dennis Weaver. Ben was played by Bruno the bear, whose coach Monty Cox was.

In 1967 a feature film with Vera Miles was shot as Ellen Wedloe and 2002, another TV movie with new, unknown actors.
