Gentleman's Relish

Gentleman 's Relish (also Patum Peperium ) is an English Anchovipaste that is traditionally very thinly spread on toast or used as a seasoning for fillings or scrambled eggs.

The paste was developed in 1828 in Paris by the Englishman John Osborn, who expelled them after his return to England as Patum Peperium (pepper paste). The very salty paste is cooked from at least 60 % and mashed anchovies, various herbs, spices and butter. The recipe is considered secret. 1971, it was sold by a descendant of John Osborne at the food manufacturer Elsenham Quality Foods. This further developed the recipe and in addition to the traditional Gentleman 's Relish offers a mixture with French mustard on.

Today, the brand for G. Costa & Co. Ltd, which in turn is part of the Group Associated British Foods belongs.
