Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (musical)

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (English original title Gentlemen Prefer Blondes ) is a musical by Jule Styne (music) and Leo Robin (lyrics ). The book of the musical is by Joseph Fields and Anita Loos, according to Loos ' novel of the same (1925 ), drama (1926) and the film adaptation of Malcolm St. Clair (1928 ). The premiere took place on December 8, 1949 at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York. The German -language premiere was in 1988 at the Stadttheater Pforzheim; the translation is by Gabrielle Peter and Beate Rygiert - Schmidt.

Carol Channing was the role of Lorelei star. In a revised edition entitled Lorelei ( Subtitle: Still Gentlemen Prefer Blondes ), which on January 27, 1974 at the Palace Theatre had in New York City premiere, she took again the lead role. Styne composed this song with additional lyrics by Betty Comden singing and Adolph Green, Kenny Solms and Gail Parent wrote the book. Time and Place: New York, the liner Ile de France, Paris. In 1924. If you love what is, you have to ask not necessarily by class, intention or past. Mr. Esmond Senior is doing this because his son wants to marry. The couple is already at the port for departure to Europe ready as Gus Esmond is recalled. The invention of the zipper threatens the state's button factory. Lorelei Lee must now alone, cruise only when accompanied by her friend Dorothy, across the Atlantic. During the crossing Lorelei mixes the on-board high-society on, missed her friend a supplier and learns the zipper inventor Josephus know Gage, meanwhile, still poking around in the home of the old Esmond in their past. Gus is all that but no matter. He travels to Paris to marry her - and finds them there in a dress with zipper! The longing is larger than the pride.
