Genya Ravan

Genya Ravan (born 1 January 1940 in Łódź, Poland; actually Genyusha Zelkowitz ) is an American rock singer.

As survivors of the Holocaust came Genyusha Zelkowitz in 1947 with her parents and a sister to America. The rest of the family had come to the German concentration camps killed. After a difficult childhood and early adolescence, which was marked by perverted friends to communicate disputes with the tradition -obsessed parents, of early marriage, the outbreak and the attempt on her own.

Artist name

With the arrival in America, her mother started her daughter's name to Goldie exchange. This was called accordingly when it joined Richie Perry's band The Escorts as lead singer and later co-founded the female rock band Goldie & The Gingerbreads was.

1966, after a temporary dissolution of the Gingerbreads, she recorded a single Disappointed Bride under the name Patsy Cole.

After the final end of Goldie & The Gingerbreads 1968 Genya finally laid to Genya Ravan artist names and stepped so on as the lead singer of the newly formed fusion band Ten Wheel Drive.

Producer

Genya Ravan has worked for various record labels as a producer. Among other things, she was responsible for the debut album of the punk rock band Dead Boys Young, Loud and Snotty (1977) and the comeback LP Siren by Ronnie Spector (1982). 2001 Genya discovered the band TriPod CBGB, produced their demo CD and again contributed backing vocals for one of the titles at.

On the Jay -Z album Kingdom Come which was published in 2006, a sample of Genya Ravans version of " Whipping Post " is on the track Oh My God included.
